How To Install Docker On Ubuntu 18.04 Server Step by Step

What is Docker:-

Docker is an open-source container application platform that allowing them to be portable among Linux and Windows

How to install docker on ubuntu 18.04 :-


  • Ubuntu 18.04 64-bit OS.
  • User account with sudo privileges.
  • Command line or terminal (CTRL-ALT-T or Applications menu >
  • Accessories > Terminal)
  • Docker software repositories ( It is optional)

Install Docker on Ubuntu Using Default Repositories

Step 1: If u want to install docker then first you have to update software
repositories. By which your local database of software updated,and you easily
access to the latest versions.

Then you open the terminal window and type-

$ sudo apt-get update

It will allow the operation to complete.

Step 2: Uninstall Old Versions

After updating Now, uninstall any old Docker software before

$ sudo apt-get remove docker docker-engine

Step 3: Install Docker

To install Docker on Ubuntu, in the terminal window use this command and

$ sudo apt install

Step 4: Start Service

After installing The Docker service it needs to be setup to run at startup.for
doing this so you use this command.

$ sudo systemctl start docker
$ sudo systemctl enable docker

Step 5 (Optional): Check Docker Version

After start , you need to check and verify the installed version
the number so use this command.

Step 6 Install docker-compose

$ sudo apt install docker-compose
$ docker --version
